Shaping Futures:
Our Journey with IFET

In a world where education is the key to unlocking infinite potential, we envisioned a future where every child, regardless of their background, has access to quality education. India Foundation For Education Transformation was born out of this dream—a passion to break the barriers of inequality and provide children with the tools they need to build a brighter tomorrow.

Our journey began with humble steps, offering educational support to a small group of underserved children. With every lesson, we saw their confidence grow, their curiosity ignite, and their dreams take shape. This motivated us to expand our reach, collaborate with communities, and create learning programs tailored to individual needs.

At IFET we believe that all kids can learn and want to learn. We believe in the potential of each child – we don’t give up on them. We recognize how each child is a unique individual that deserves love and care – we nurture and develop them into well-rounded value-driven people.

We ensure to light the spark of education in every child and youth, empowering them to rise above challenges and circumstances and build a brighter future for their communities.

A teacher’s mindset, skills, and actions can significantly shape students’ academic experiences and outcomes, even in difficult circumstances.
WHAT WE DO?

We work with district administration and DIET to strengthen teachers and provide academic support.

We enable govt teachers to be empowered and effective —through training, resources, and community support—they become better equipped to connect with their students and create a supportive learning environment. In such classrooms, where teachers are committed to their students’ success, students are more likely to engage actively with challenging content, build confidence, and achieve growth. Furthermore, when teachers have the community’s support, they can leverage local resources and parental involvement to reinforce learning. Thus, even in the face of poverty and limited resources, a teacher’s impact can be transformative, driving meaningful change and academic progress for students in low-income communities

Designing Customised Teacher Training Programs

We collaborate with government partners to design specialised training programs tailored to local challenges. By working alongside government training teams, school leaders, and teachers, we gain a clear understanding of the pressing challenges within each community. This insight helps us create training sessions that are focused, relevant, and directly responsive to the actual needs of the teachers.

Providing Effective Classroom Tools and Strategies

Teachers are guided and supported with well-structured content and resources designed specifically to ease their daily workload and enhance their teaching effectiveness. Research shows that teachers make around 1,500 decisions each day, from lesson planning and choosing materials to managing the classroom and addressing student learning gaps. Without adequate support, this can be overwhelming. Therefore, the resources have been crafted to simplify these decisions, enabling teachers to focus on what matters most—student learning.

Providing Continuous Coaching and Individualised Support

To reinforce what teachers learn during training, we offer personalised coaching and feedback sessions. Experienced coaches observe classroom practices, providing constructive input to help teachers continuously refine their approach.

We witnessed!

When teachers commit to going beyond conventional roles, they foster an environment that encourages students to engage with rigorous content, facilitating both personal growth and academic achievement. Productive community involvement strengthens this impact by providing resources, support, and a shared commitment to success. This collaborative foundation, coupled with teacher empowerment, creates a classroom where students are not just participants but active learners, motivated to succeed despite any external challenges they may face.

Our key Educational Programs

At the core of our mission in Changlang district is strengthening teachers, the cornerstone of effective education. With additional efforts in our programs such as alignment of goals with all stakeholders, strengthening SMCs and community involvement, and ensuring robust monitoring and evaluation, IFET drive two transformative intervention programs: the Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) program and the Board Support Program to enhance educational outcomes in Changlang District. In both these programs, our approach emphasises collective action and micro-improvement strategies that enable sustainable and impactful changes in the district’s educational landscape.

Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) Program
IMG-20220809-WA0011.jpg

The FLN Program is a targeted intervention in Changlang District to strengthen foundational literacy and numeracy skills among students from Grades 1 to 5. Recognizing that these skills are the building blocks of future academic success, the program focuses on ensuring that every child achieves grade-level proficiency in reading, writing, and basic mathematics as per the standards set in the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) 2023.

Board Support Program
BXGU7475.JPG

The Board Support Program is an intensive initiative aimed at improving the academic outcomes of Class X students across government schools in Changlang District, with a particular focus on increasing the pass rates in the CBSE Class X Board Examinations. This program targets both student preparation and systemic support within schools, aiming to create an environment conducive to high academic achievement.

From Education to Employment : SAATHIYA Skilling Program

H3

At the India Foundation for Education Transformation (IFET), we believe education is the foundation for a brighter future. Through our Board Support Program, we’ve empowered students in Changlang district to successfully pass their board exams and take their first steps toward achieving their dreams.

However, we recognize that passing exams is only the beginning of a journey. For many students, the challenge lies in what comes next: building the skills and finding opportunities to secure a sustainable livelihood. Education alone, without the right skills and job prospects, often falls short in tackling unemployment.

That’s where our SAATHIYA SKILLING PROGRAM comes in.

This innovative program, offered in collaboration with SAATHIYA – The Skilling Academy, bridges the gap between education and employment by equipping deserving young adults with the skills they need to succeed in the thriving hospitality industry. Our Integrated Career Development Program (ICDP) is designed to provide: • Short-Term Skill Training to prepare youth for real- world jobs. • Long-Term Career Support to ensure continuous growth.

The results speak for themselves: 💼 Every single student from our 1st and 2nd batches is now employed in top 5-star hotels across the country after just 3 months of training in Bangalore.

High failure rate in CBSE Board and Severe Learning Crisis at the Foundational level

Our focus is on addressing the educational crisis in Arunachal Pradesh, particularly in Changlang district, which ranks as the lowest-performing in the region. We aim to transform the educational landscape here, driving socio-economic development for marginalized communities.

According to NAS 2017, Changlang was identified as the lowest-performing district in India, with only 1.2% of students proficient in language (compared to the national average of 48%) and 4.7% proficient in Maths.

Every year, 7 out of 10 students fail their Class 10 CBSE Board exam, and 6 out of 10 fail in Class 12. The state pass rate stands at a low 40%, far behind states like Delhi. Many students who fail drop out of the education system entirely, leading to thousands of youths without employable skills. Those who migrate to cities find low-paying factory jobs, while many who remain in villages face a high risk of engaging in drugs or insurgency due to lack of meaningful opportunities, keeping tribal communities socio-economically disadvantaged.

Who We Are

Our work predominantly centers on:

India Foundation for Educational Transformation (IFET) is a grassroots non-profit organization based in Diyun, within the Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh. It was established with the core mission of fostering socio-economic transformation for deprived and marginalized children residing in the remote and hilly regions of India. The foundation of IFET is firmly rooted in our unwavering belief that education serves as the cornerstone for the upliftment of underprivileged communities across the nation.

We are a small team with a shared experience of being from some of the most deprived and marginalised communities in India. It is only through education we have managed to empower ourselves to what we are now-critically conscious and economically empowered. So, we know how pivotal and critical education to children in our remote geographies is.

Children and Youth

We support early graders in building strong foundational literacy and numeracy skills. For older students, we provide the tools and resources needed to succeed in secondary education and pursue higher education, breaking cycles of poverty and limited opportunities.

Marginalized Communities

We serve children from India's most underrepresented and disadvantaged communities, especially in the North East, where socio-economic barriers often perpetuate cycles of deprivation.

Women And Girls

Promoting gender equity, we prioritize girls' education, ensuring they have equal opportunities to succeed. Educating girls drives societal change, as empowered women uplift families and communities.

Foundational Learnings
Foundational Learnings
To tackle the issue of low foundational learning, we've adopted the FLN and School Transformation Program based on evidence and best practices from India and globally. In partnership with the District Administration, we started in one administrative circle, covering 30 government schools, empowering 110 teachers, and impacting 4,000 students. Our program engages all stakeholders, including the District Administration, teachers, students, parents, village headmen, and SMCs.
Board Supports Program
Board Supports Program
For students from marginalized, insurgency-prone areas, failing the Board Exam can have life-long consequences. Our Board Support Program helps secondary students succeed in their Class X exams and beyond. In 2023-24, the program piloted at GSS Gautampur and GSS Dumpather led to a significant improvement in CBSE pass rates, increasing from 6% in 2022-23 to 58% in 2023-24.
Shikshagraha: District Education Empowerment Program
Shikshagraha: District Education Empowerment Program
The District Education Empowerment Program (DEEP) aims to build a self-sustaining education system in Changlang district through collaborative efforts, using micro-improvements to address educational challenges at scale, swiftly and sustainably. This grassroots movement empowers educational leaders, DIET, and Civil Society Organizations to co-create need-based programs. Shikshagraha's proven methodology for holistic education transformation strengthens DEEP's efforts in driving meaningful change across the district.
Skilling for Livelihood Program
Skilling for Livelihood Program
Unemployment is a major issue in the NorthEast, with limited job opportunities for students even after passing their Class 10 or 12 exams. To address this, we’ve partnered with SAATHIYA (a Shibulal Family Philanthropic Initiative) to offer the Integrated Career Development Program (ICDP) in Changlang district. This program combines short-term skill training with long-term career support to help underprivileged youth build sustainable careers.

NALC DIYUN - Library Program
The Circle Library - New Age Learning Center features modern facilities, a diverse book collection, and cutting-edge technology. A key part of our literacy initiatives, the library will support a comprehensive reading program across all intervention schools. Beyond this, it aims to cultivate a culture of reading within the administrative circle. The space will also serve as a hub for learning, offering resources for competitive exam prep, arts activities, and access to literature in native languages for non-English tribal communities.
Community Learning Center
Community Learning Center
The Community Learning Center offers an after-school program for local government school children. It acts as a training and research hub for our School Managers, where classroom practices are tested before being implemented in intervention schools. Managed by School Managers, the center delivers lessons aligned with the FLN program. This academic year, the center will introduce Shikshamitra’s accelerated English learning method to further support students' language development.
