We are a small yet determined team rooted in the experience of growing up in some of the most marginalized and deprived communities in India. Education has been the transformative force in our lives—empowering us to become critically conscious and economically independent. Now, we are on a mission to extend the same opportunity to the children of our region, helping them escape cycles of poverty and build brighter futures.

WHO WE ARE

It is our unwavering belief that education serves as the cornerstone for the upliftment of underprivileged communities in remote and hilly region of India.

IFET was incubated by TeachForIndia’s Innovated and Mantra4change’s Edumentum and is being supported by Wipro Foundation, Mantra4Change, CaringFriends Network, TeachForindia and some highly generous individuals.

Our Story - From struggle to hope

The journey of the founders and team of IFET is deeply rooted in the challenges of rural Northeast India, where limited opportunities made education a distant dream for many. Raised amidst economic hardship, societal neglect, and the looming risks of drugs, alcohol, and insurgency, they intimately understood the obstacles faced by children in underserved communities.

Prahlad’s personal experience is a testament to resilience. In 2005, out of 120 students at Government Higher Secondary School, Diyun, only three—including Prahlad—passed the board exams. This struggle fueled his passion, leading him to become a Teach for India Fellow in 2012. Since then, he has been committed to ensuring that no child is left behind, working with government schools and renowned educational organizations to expand access to quality education.

Sanjoy's story mirrors this determination. Despite his parents’ limited education—his mother completing Class 8 and his father Class 12—they ensured that their children went to school. Sanjoy supported his own education beyond graduation and later took on the responsibility of funding his sisters' schooling. Driven by the belief in education’s power to transform lives, he co-founded IFET to extend similar opportunities to others.

Together, the founders and team of IFET have walked the delicate line between hope and despair, with education serving as their lifeline. IFET was born from a shared mission to uplift their communities and create pathways for young learners. Their goal is ambitious but clear: to build strong academic foundations for 30,000 students and support 5,000 secondary students in pursuing higher education by 2028.

CEO

Prahlad is a seasoned educator and a Teach for India Fellow with extensive experience in fostering academic excellence, leadership, and positive mindsets among students. With MIllion Sparks Foundation, he led the Teacher Capacity Building Program, collaborating with government agencies like SCERT Delhi, SSA Chhattisgarh, and SCERT Goa to train thousands of teachers. Prahlad’s expertise also extends to working as an education consultant with Barefoot EduFoundation, Pearson Education and Sterlite EdIndia Foundation.

Demonstrating his entrepreneurial spirit, he founded The Eastern Today, an English daily newspaper in Northeast India, where he served as Editor and Managing Director for three years.

Currently, he continues his journey in education as a Wipro Education Fellow, striving to bring systemic change to underserved communities.

Sanjoy

COO

Sanjoy brings over 15 years of rich experience in school management, leadership, curriculum development, and teacher training. He served as the principal of Aditya Public School, a reputed ICSE institution in Bengaluru, for five years, where he excelled in educational leadership and institutional growth.

Following this, he contributed to Chrysalis High, a chain of schools in Bengaluru, as a curriculum developer, where he crafted innovative teaching frameworks. His dedication to environmental sustainability earned him the prestigious Wipro Earthian Award in 2014 for leading young students in pioneering environmental initiatives. He was also empaneled as an examiner by CISCE for English Literature and Geography.

Earlier in his career, Sanjoy worked with Annovation Jr as a Regional Teacher Partner as a contultant for two years, advancing education through strategic planning and curriculum innovation.

Our Vision

North East India has been a theater of conflicts over the years. Its richness, plurality and diversity of people and strong tribal identity affiliation has often contributed to tension among and between communities. We seek to use education to imbibe and foster friendship, tolerance, mutual coexistence among competing tribal communities. Which is why, our vision is to transform communities into peaceful, critically conscious socio-economically powered through education that believe in harmony and social coexistence.

Our Agriculture Sustainable NGO is dedicated to promoting environmentally-friendly farming practices that ensure long-term food security, improve soil health, and enhance the livelihoods of rural communities. We focus on empowering smallholder farmers by providing them with the necessary resources, education, and support to adopt sustainable agricultural techniques. Our goal is to create a resilient agricultural system that balances human needs with environmental protection, helping to combat climate change while fostering biodiversity.

Prahlad Chakma

Sanjoy Chakma

Sanjoy brings over 12 years of experience in school management, leadership, curriculum development, and teacher training. He served as the principal of Aditya Public School, a well-regarded ICSE institution in Bengaluru, for five years, where he honed his skills in educational leadership. Following this, he worked with Chrysalis High, a chain of schools in Bengaluru, as a curriculum developer, crafting innovative teaching frameworks.

Currently, Sanjoy works as a Curriculum Specialist with The International School of Bangalore, a prestigious international institution. Alongside this role, he also collaborates with Annovation Jr as a Regional Teacher Partner, furthering his commitment to advancing education through strategic planning and curriculum innovation. His career reflects a deep passion for empowering both educators and learners through thoughtful design and effective management.
