Why is a Board Support Program needed?
The average pass rate for the 10th grade in four government schools within Diyun Block has consistently remained below 20% over the years. The Board Support Program is implemented in collaboration with the District Administration of Changlang district by devising a comprehensive and holistic year-long strategy aimed at aiding students in their preparation for and successful completion of their 10th-grade board examinations
For students from marginalized, deprived communities in insurgency-prone areas like ours, failing the Class 10 board exams can have devastating, lifelong consequences. A significant issue is that most students who fail these exams completely drop out of the education system. This leads to a growing population of disillusioned youth with no employable skills, struggling to survive in an increasingly competitive world. Many are forced to migrate to cities for low-paying, menial jobs in factories, while those who remain in their villages face a high risk of falling into destructive behaviors such as drug abuse or even joining insurgent groups due to a lack of meaningful opportunities. This cycle perpetuates the socio-economic poverty of tribal communities.
Our analysis reveals that the root cause of this high failure rate at the secondary level stems from a deep learning crisis at the foundational and primary levels, which needs urgent attention if we are to break this cycle and provide better futures for these young individuals. While we are trying to build a strong foundation at the early years of education through our FLN program, the Board Support Program is a band-aid solution for the students who are currently at the secondary classes.
The Board Support program was piloted in the academic year 2023-24, running from August 2023 until the conclusion of the CBSE Board Exam on March 14, 2024. This program was specifically implemented in the two lowest-performing government schools, namely Government Secondary School, Dumapather, and Government Secondary School, Gautampur, benefiting a total of 106 students.

Board Support Program
The Board Support Program is an intensive initiative aimed at improving the academic outcomes of Class X students across government schools in Changlang District, with a particular focus on increasing the pass rates in the CBSE Class X Board Examinations. This program targets both student preparation and systemic support within schools, aiming to create an environment conducive to high academic achievement.
The Board Support program was piloted in the academic year 2023-24, running from August 2023 until the conclusion of the CBSE Board Exam on March 14, 2024. This program was specifically implemented in the two lowest-performing government schools, namely Government Secondary School, Dumapather, and Government Secondary School, Gautampur, benefiting a total of 106 students.

Goal of the Program
Higher CBSE Class X Board Exam Pass Rates in Government Schools
Under the Board Support Program, we are committed to improving the academic readiness and exam performance of Class X students in Changlang’s government schools. With a focus on remedial classes, individualized support, and strategic guidance, the program aims to raise the pass percentage and overall achievement levels of students in the CBSE Class X Board Exam, aligning with our objective of expanding students’ post-secondary opportunities.

Impact of our Pilot Board Program
Board Support program was piloted in the academic year 2023-24 in the two lowest-performing government schools, namely Government Secondary School, Dumapather, and Government Secondary School, Gautampur, benefiting a total of 106 students.
In the CBSE Exam of 2023, a mere 4 students from Government Secondary School, Gautampur, managed to pass, resulting in a pass rate of only 6.9%. Following our intervention in the CBSE Exam of 2024, the number of students passing directly increased to 26, elevating the pass rate to 58%.
Likewise, only 3 students succeeded from the Government Secondary School, Dumpather last year, resulting in a pass rate of 6.9%. However, after our involvement in the CBSE Exam of 2024, the pass rate rose to 52%, with 27 students passing directly.

Impact of the Board Support Program
In the CBSE Exam of 2023, a mere 4 students from Government Secondary School, Gautampur, managed to pass, resulting in a pass rate of only 6.9%. Following our intervention in the CBSE Exam of 2024, the number of students passing directly increased to 26, elevating the pass rate to 58%. If the students succeed in compartment exams, our ultimate pass rate is expected to exceed 90%.
Likewise, only 3 students succeeded from the Government Secondary School, Dumpather last year, resulting in a pass rate of 6.9%. However, after our involvement in the CBSE Exam of 2024, the pass rate rose to 52%, with 27 students passing directly.
Plan for 2024-2025
This academic session, in addition to Gautampur and Dumpather Government Secondary Schools, the Board Support Program is expanded to another nearby institution, namely Diyun Government Higher Secondary School.
Extended Program - English Language Integration
Insufficient reading and comprehension skills in the English language have been identified as a significant factor contributing to the low pass rates in Class X. Enhancing English language proficiency is believed to significantly improve students' success rates in board subjects, particularly English, Social Science, and Science. This parallel initiative is being planned beginning from this year onwards.
Hence, commencing this year, additional English coaching will be offered to students in classes 8 and 9, to facilitate smoother progression and success in their Class X examinations. The program is being initiated in three higher secondary schools and eight middle schools from this academic year.
District wide Board Support Program through our Shikshagraha- District Education Empowerment Program
Changlang District's CBSE Class X pass rate for 2023-24 stands at 45.67%, significantly below the regional average of 77.94%. To address this, as a part of DEEP, we are implementing district-wide strategies aimed at improving foundational skills and boosting board exam performance.
